I knew I could salvage this stump somehow. Introducing the CASCADES Coffee Table Editions- a series of designs in which I finish the work of art which nature has begun.

Each Edition is one-of-a-kind, shown here is Edition 003. If you saw this stump on our scrap lumber pile 10 years ago, you wouldn’t believe what it could be turned into! Well, that’s my job- to find and extract the beauty in even the most boring-looking chunks of wood. The stump was too small to slice into slabs so I decided to cut it in half. After thoroughly seasoning it for over a decade, I shaped it and cleaned it up into this mind-blowing bookmatch coffee table. It is a snapshot of the tree’s life, frozen in time. The charred edges create a striking contrast with the Smoked Walnut top which is expertly finished in a gloss varnish to make the colors and the incredible grain pop. In woodworker lingo- Look at that figure!
